Posted on Tue, 20 Oct 2015
Question: When there is no urine in the male urethra is it a friendly environment for sperm? I have seen post on internet that say it can live in the male urethra for 72 hours. Then I have seen doctors say it could live in urethra for 6 hours maximum. Is this true?

Brief Answer:
Viability of sperms after urination is very rare.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
After ejaculation, few sperms do remain in the urethra, major portion of which get washed out with next urination.
Thereafter, the acidic urine and it's contents, and the ammonia, don't let the sperms survive.
With next urination, it's all washed out.
Possibility of surviving beyond few hours to 24 hours is very remote.
Hope your doubt is cleared.

Brief Answer:
Such studies not done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
It may survive few hours, which may be about 4-6 hours.
Precise studies in this kind of viability, inside the urethra, are not available.
As urination usually occurs in few hours, it has been of no relevance.
If you can mention, what exactly is your area of interest, i can relieve your anxiety.

Brief Answer:
Sperms are present in 'precum'.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
If you're thinking about fertility by sperms from previous and next intercourse, both can cause pregnancy in 2 hours.
Sperms are also present in so called 'precum',or liquid that flows out before sex.
If it reaches the cervix, it has the potential to reach in and cause a pregnancy, by fertilizing an egg.
Hope your doubts are cleared now.
