Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: Hi,
My boyfriend has HPV 16 and I had my first intercourse with him and he is my only partner. What does it mean for me? Do i have that virus too?
He never ejaculated inside me, but we don't use condoms.
What are the steps I need to take now?

Brief Answer:
You need to get investigated .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you had unprotected intra vaginal sex withyour boyfriend who is known to have HPV 16 infection .

Though you do not have any symptoms There are high chances of getting this infection transmitted to you later due to unprotected sex.

You need to get following basic tests done to rule outthe infection being transmitted to you .
1) Pap Test on cells obtained from your cervix.
2) HPV test.
3) DNA test on cervical secretions (Done only if pap smear test is positive)

Try to practice safe and unprotected sex.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
