How Can Severe Hair Thinning And Hair Loss After Applying Minoxidil Be Treated And Cured?
Question: Hello, I've noticed my hair has lightly thinned in the beginning of the year after a very stressful and agonizing event in December. I applied minoxidil for 2 days straight in early April, however I decided I did not want to be consistent with the medication and stopped it (after the two days). Ever since I applied minoxidil my hair has been shedding like crazy for 6 weeks now. Is the shedding ever going to stop? I know it's a common side effect for hair to shed in the beginning of use with minoxidil but I'm not even sure if it's from the minoxidil anymore. I have not had any shedding before applying it, but my I noticed the light thinning that had happened. This is the first time I see thick hairs fall out with their roots. I really don't want to take Propecia, or minoxidil, I still have plenty of hair on my head but it's thinned a lot now around the crown and top since I've applied minoxidil and I've also been taking biotin (which hasn't done much to help). I've been on antidepressants (Wellbutrin) but stopped it around 3 weeks ago. My hair's texture changed and it is deflating my mood. The way I applied minoxidil was by applying 0.5 ml on my hands and rubbed it across most of my scalp.
Brief Answer:
Excessive shedding doesn’t seem to be related to minoxidil
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your complaints.
Excessive shedding of hair can’t be caused by 2 days of usage of minoxidil.
Minoxidil when used for a long time can cause excessive shedding in the beginning.
This hair loss could be due to the stress you had faced earlier or due to beginning of male pattern baldness.
Also get your thyroid function tests, haemoglobin and serum ferritin levels checked as sometimes hair fall is associated with thyroid disorders and anemia.
