How Can A Small Lump Under The Left Armpit Be Treated?

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Nov 2016
Question: i have notice that i have a pea size bump/lump (feel like a little ball) under my left arm pit. It seem to feel like a vein going to the bump/lump. There is no pain and it is in the same spot. However, I notice that the vein has some thickness to it that can be felt from my bump/lump to almost my ebow. I checked under my other arm and there is nothing as such, no vein or bumb/lump.

Brief Answer:
It looks like an enlarged lymph node.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Usually, there are multiple lymph nodes in the axilla. They get enlarged due to bacterial infection commonly. The cord like structure that you are palpating could be an enlarged lymphatic. These lymphatics drain corresponding lymph nodes. For example, if there is any wound in the upper limb, the infection spreads through the lymphatics and the axillary lymph node gets enlarged.
I prescribe Antibiotic like Cefuroxime 500mg twice daily along with anti inflammatory tablet twice daily to my patients with similar complaints.
If it is a vascular lesion,Colour doppler of the upper limb along with Axilla will confirm the diagnosis.
Please consult a General surgeon, get examined clinically and proceed accordingly.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
