How Can A Cystic Lesion In The Pancreas Be Treated?

default
Posted on Fri, 14 Apr 2017
Question: I had an incidental finding recently of a 1cm fluid filled cyst on the tail of my pancreas. I am awaiting MRCP and EUS. I've been told this can be anything from a psuedocyst to premalignant neoplasm. They drew my CA 19-9 level and I won't know what it is for five days. I have very high anxiety. I have a fatty liver, IBS type symptoms, acid reflux and high triglycerides. I think o may have had pancreatitis in the past as pain radiated into my back but I've never had a highly elevated lipase. My question is:

1. Will the fact I have a cyst whether malignant or benign cause an elevated C19-9?

2. If the marker is elevated, could i still have a non-invasive or benign cyst?

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Hello dear. It can be anything

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have gone through the details. I understand your concern. So a cystic lesion in pancreas can be either
A simple cyst
A sequele to pancreatitis,
Or a cystic tumor.
As far as ca, 19.9 is concerned, it can be elevated in both benign as well as malignant conditions. Its only significance lies im as an adjunct to diagnosis and for follow up after treatment.
Definite diagnosis will be by fnac or biopsy only.
Hope you understand.
Thanks and regards
