How Can A Bruise Near The Lower Right Abdomen After Injury Be Treated?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Sep 2017
Question: I have a bruise below the skin as the result of being severely restrained by a seatbelt in a car accident. The bruise feels solid below the skin, in the mid to lower right abdomen. I went to the doctor 3 days after being treated and scanned at the hospital. Just wanting to know if this hardness below the skin is normal. Bowel and urine habits and coloration are normal. I can eat and drink normally. Can I continue to rest at home or...?

Brief Answer:
It will heal spontaneously within few weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to HealthcareMagic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through.

Based on the history you have shared, it can be subcutaneous swelling or bruise or fat tissue collection or soft tissue swelling underneath. It can be a manifestation of the injuries that you have suffered due to seat belt. The medication and supportive measures seem sufficient in that regard and since their are no associated signs infection so antibiotics may not be needed.

The scan like untrasound abdomen, if that is normal as you have mentioned then it is not of much concern. But for further reassurance liver function tests and urinalysis can be performed. Local or topical applications of anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen or diclofenac can be used for massage over the swelling to help in remission.

If swelling persist beyond two months then a repeat surgical review for any need of biopsy and repeat scan may be needed. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
