How Accurate Is A Urine And Blood Toxicology Test?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Mar 2015
Question: Can a urine and or a blood toxicology test give you a consistent negative result for Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen *5/25* tablets in your body? If this is true will a hair follicle toxicology test provide accurate test results?

Brief Answer:
Depends on liver health

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am Dr Mittal
The medicines you have mentioned are detoxified and excreted by the liver.
Liver is a very powerful organ unless the dose of the medicine is too high.
So unless the dose of the medicine overcomes the detoxification capability of the individual, the toxicity will not happen, and therefore may not show.
The capability of the liver depends on circumstances and person to person depending on things like alcohol abuse and hepatitis and other such factors that affect the liver health in general.

If however, the liver is overcome, blood tests may show the drug levels that may show toxicity.

as for hair follicle test, it is usually more common for heavy metal poisoning like lead and arsenic.

I hope that explains the idea to you.
