Question: Hi my name is XXXXXXX Franz and I recently (13 days ago) had full mouth teeth implant surgery. I am a heavy smoker 2 pack a day, drink coffee till noon with lots cream and sugar daily, stead cannabis user daily. Day one post surgery i cut smoking to 1 pack day, quit cannabis, coffe, and Pepsi’s all together. Of course primarily liquid diet, mainly noodle soup. 5 days into recovery I feel I may have overdosed on Advil’s combined with oxycodone/acetaminophen 7.5 325 mg (3-4 Advil plus1 oxy and 3to 4 hours later same dose). Couple days later seemed to be recovering okay with exception of tingling and numbness of top head, dizzy and lightheaded and continues cold sweats. Today I Continued Advil 2-3 each as needed every 4-5 hours for pain and discomfort. Day 9 of recovery I could not sleep at all, up 24 hours before I got 2 hours of sleep, cold sweats with extreme dizziness and light headedness continues in waves. I’ve graduated to soft foods like cut up spaghetti, even light chicken and mashed potato dinners. Day 12 I eat what could could have been marginally unsafe hamburger meat, not realizing of course 3 days in fridge since opening. Had abdominal pain and increased dizziness and tingling of head. I also decided to change pain meds to Bayer aspirin 81 mg 4-5 each. Did this for only 24 hours in 4-5 hour increments. Rest at best is in 2-3 hour increments and not because of pain. Not sure why but continued dizziness and foggy head with headaches in waves. 2-3 Advil’s seem to relieve symptoms temporarily, diet continues with soft foods but only a faction of what I would only normally eat, no coffe, no Pepsi, no cannabis but continue to smoke 1 pack + a day. At this time my stools have turned consistently black and continue to be soft. I have now experienced two full days of black, doesn’t appear bloody stools. Throughout this process I have taken a couple different antibiotics from Amoxicillin to penicillin per my dentist. Sleepless nights continued dizziness and cold sweats and now black stools have me concerned. I’m try to schedule appointment with internal medicine doctor today but not sure I he can fit me in on late notice. Do you have any advice for me?
Sincerely XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Can be withdrawal symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hii.First of all thank you for approaching us for your query. I read through your query. I must say that these dizziness sleeplessness can be due to the withdrawal symptoms of long term habits(smoking, cannabis, coffee). Your body is deprived of these substances which you have used in large quantities for long time. These are withdrawal symptoms. As a result you have reduced sleep , chills, dizziness ,headache. Also the medicines given were proper dosage and long doses. So I suggest you when you meet your internal medicine doctor please ask him about the withdrawal symptoms. I suggest you to take fruit juices or choclates whenever you usually used to do these habbits and divert your mind from the habbits. Drink lots of water and have fruits. Nothing to be worried in this case. Everything will be fine. Hope you have understood what I meant. Thank you and have a healthy day.

Thank you. makes sense i guess, but what about the black stools, i now beleive they may in fact be bloody and continue today. would this be a GI ulcerer as my internal doctor suggests? blood work was ordered earlier today awaiting 36-40 result.

Brief Answer:
can be due to GI ulcer.

Detailed Answer:
Hi thank you for your prompt followup query.

I must say that the Black stools can be due to Gi ulceration or disturbance caused due to excessive intake of medicines and reduced food(than usual so your stomach lining will produce more acid but very less food to get digested so it causes temporary disturbance in the stomach lining resulting in trauma causes internal bleeding). This can be a cause. But we cant entirely say it is mainly due to medicines, various other causes can also be there. Anyways your blood report should come to reach final diagnosis. I can say that nothing to be worried. It is a curable case only. I suggest you to take food on time and have lots n lots of water. Take medicines only after food. Hope you have understood what I meant. Keep calm and stay happy. There is solution for every problem in this world.

Have a healthy day.Thank you.

Thank you, Dr. XXXXXXX

I did improve today but i feel as a result of Penicillin VK 500mg. I neglected to mention in my initial inquiry, due to my bad teeth and the many procedures prior to the implants i have been taking Penicillin for a year or more. There were times 6-8 week periods it was not needed. However, months leading up to the implants i was taking 3-4 pills daily.

If am withdrawing's from these substances is it possible i would be withdrawing from this too? If so, can one continue and slowly lower the doses? Maybe the only way to maintain and promote the healing of my mouth first? I have not experienced diarrhea, stomach issues, rashes or bloody stools while taking.

If in fact these are withdrawal from the substances listed here and in my initial inquiry which substance would be the most pull on my body? And finally, if this is withdrawals, how long does this typically last?

Thank you all for your kind words and support. This is a wonderful services.

Brief Answer:
No medicines to be taken for long time without doctors prescription

Detailed Answer:
Hii..Thanks again for your query. I read through your query.

Pencillin for a year is too much. Please please dont take antibiotics like this.It will damage your entire immunity and stomach lining even if you didnt get rashes or blood stained stools or anything. If you take penicillin for longer time it wont have any effect on infections on future. Antibiotics in fact any medicines have dosage and period of use. If you are using it continuously the micro organisms causing infection will get used to it and in future if you get infections and you u take these medicines it wont have any effect to this infections. So please do consult a doctor before taking the penicillins or any medicines for long time .We have to remove the cause of infections rather than simply taking medicines. Next regarding withdrawal symptoms. All those substances which you were taking as u told in your initial query can be causing withdrawal symptoms.Withdrawal symptoms can be for different duration for different people and for different rates for different substances. So it is actually not that predictable which one can take how much long time. Some can show weeks of withdrawal symptoms in some people. Some can show many months of withdrawal symptoms. But nothing to worry .It depends on you how much you wanted to stop these. As I told you have to substitute with these substances with fruits or nicotine substitute chewing gums and drink lots of water. You cant stop one shot at a day. You have to gradually reduce it and stop eventually. Nothing to be worried everything will be fine. There is solution for every problem.

Hope you have understood what I meant.

Thank you Doctor!

Unfortunately, i MUST return to work tomorrow Monday April 15th. On Thursday last week we determined it is the cannabis driving my symptoms. As a result i have reintroduced cannabis into my diet to alleviate the symptoms so i may return to work. However, I've had mixed results over the past two days.

I am a lifetime user who has quit and started many, many times over the years. And yes dependent when using but i have no problem quitting. I use primarily to keep busy doing something. I certainly have no mental anguish, or depression issues. The last time i quite was in 2015-2016 were i quit for two years. I have always liked cannabis and rarely drink alcohol. I did this primarily for work reasons but priors sobrieties have been for personal reasons,...just needed a break. As with this time, i simply needed a break, i am not being forced to quit, and if this is what happens when doing so, maybe a it will be permanent decision if i can get past these issues.

Why would i be having such severe withdrawals this time? My plan is to medicate to the point of be able to function normally, is this obtainable? The reason i pose the question is because the past two days have had mixed results. Then i will gradually tapper off over a period of time, making withdrawals simpler to manage without impacting work.

I realize i may be transitioning from medical care to rehabilitation. Thought i would never say that in my lifetime, and know I've had bouts with other controlled substances early in my life where rehabilitation should have been prescribed. Although my reason to quit this time is not work driven, i still cannot afford to announce such a thing in my position.

I realize medically i will be fine once i clear this hurdle. The questions is how do i do this and maintain my responsibilities in life. If i can get past the dizziness and light headed spells i can manage the slow reduction of cannabis. Will this work? I hope you are still willing to help me.

Sincerely, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Tapering is best method.

Detailed Answer:
Hii XXXXXXX Thank you for your followup query. I am happy to help you for how much ever time you ask questions which is what I am serving here for.I read through your query.

Its a good decision to taper it and it is the best way to reduce withdrawal symptoms.Tapering means you have to reduce the daily intake of cannabis slowly and weekly reduction is best. In the mean time you have to deviate your mind from cannabis to something else(and be careful later you should not get addicted to what you are deviating to).Rehabilitation centre in case you go they do the same thing. I feel you should deviate to something like meditation, light soothening music, or dance anything for that matter which deviates your mind from what you are craving for. Its all about mind game. You should control your mind rather than your mind controlling you. Do practice meditation, yoga (i have my personal experience on this tapering thats why I am able to talk to you about this like this)Meditation concentrates your mind away from these cravings, and yoga also helps a lot. It takes sometime to reduce and later quit cannabis by following meditation, listening music , yoga(what I did with my mind). Follow these and let me know after a few months you will be free from your cannabis. It makes you get control over your mind which is what is needed.Hope you have understood what I have told.

Thank you have a healthy day.
