Brief Answer:
Peripheral neuropathy due to prediabetes, follow the advice below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I  reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms seem to be related to peripheral neuropathy due to prediabetes.
Diabetes can cause nerve damage, especially on the peripheral parts of the body.

Some examinations that should be done to precisely confirm the diagnosis are:
-a regular measurement of blood glycemic level
-an electromyography to check the muscles
-Quantitative sensory testing, which tells how your nerves respond to vibration and changes in temperature.

Meanwhile, some advice that I can give to you are:
-Continue taking Gabapentin 100 mg to relieve the pain
-Try Capsain cream for local application at the area of pain
-Eat a balanced diet
-Exercise
-Physical therapy and acupuncture are also recommended as an alternative treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Doctor,

Can this peripheral neuropathy be a serious concern and can this be cured? Do I need to see any specialist. Since last 2 weeks I am experiencing lot of pain in the right side of my head. It has spread from abdomen and has moved up to my head. I feel scared as it includes brain.

Sometime the pain is dull and sometimes is shooting, but the pain is always there. It feels like my body is divided into 2 parts right side is in pain and left side is normal. but I'm afraid if the pain spreads to that side also.

Brief Answer:
You should see a neurologist, treatment consists in relieving the pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear Anupriya,

Peripheral neuropathy can be a serious concern because of progressive pain in different parts of the body.
There are certain examinations that can be done to confirm the peripheral neuropathy.
The most important examinations are nerve function tests.
You should consult a neurologist which is the specialist who take care about this diagnosis.

Treatment is mostly focused on relieving the pain.
The recommended treatment is :

-Pain killers such as antiinflammatory medication. If the pain is not relieved you can try oxycodone which is a prescribed medication
-Gabapentin is also recommended to relieve the pain.It is also a prescribed medication
-Topical treatment such as capsain cream.

You should consult the neurologist about these treatments.

Hope my answer was helpful.
Wish you all the best dear,
Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi

Brief Answer:
Diet suggestions as below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,
I understand your concern.

Some advice that I can about the diet are :
-consume vitamin B12, which is in fish, lean red meat and poultry without skin.
-spinach, broccoli and yeast, which contain alpha-lipoic acid
-Vegetables, fruits, legumes are very important
-You can also consume whole grain.

I also suggest you to consume fat free or low fat products which have a positive effect in gallbladder function.
