Brief Answer:
FOLLOW THE GUIDELINE.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

As you involved in unprotected sex close to fertile days, then we need to rule out pregnancy or early miscarriage in this context due to having late period with recent brownish black spotting.

Underlying causes of previous irregular bleeding could be mental stress, hormonal imbalance, pelvic/ vaginal infection, over weight, cervical polyp, old endometrial tissue or blood clots etc.

Early pregnancy test is less significant. Here, I suggest to undergo one Trans Vaginal Ultrasound scan and blood test for beta-hCG to rule out exact pathology including pregnancy. Hormone test and endometrial biopsy may be required in the absence of pregnancy to pinpoint the diagnosis.

Proper treatment can be made after diagnosis of the case. You must consult with your gynecologist to get examined once and for next line of management. In the mean time, you would maintain your genital hygiene properly and avoid sex till the problem is completely resolved.

Hope, above information is quite helpful to you. Let me know if you need any clarification.

Wish your good health and take care yourself.

Regards,
Dr Soumen

Brief Answer:
YES, YOU CAN GET FALSE NEGATIVE PREGNANCY TEST.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for your follow up query.

Yes, it is quite possible to get false negative home pregnancy test. It is mostly seen in very early or late conception, early miscarriage etc.

Pregnancy kit gives around 95% positive result when test is done around missed due date or 2 weeks after ovulation. 96-99% positive result is achieved after 7 days of missed due date.

In this context, TVS scan and blood test for beta-hCG are mostly suggestive to rule out the underlying causes including ectopic pregnancy (if any). These are more reliable and confirmatory.

Hope, I have clarified the things. If you don't have any query, you can close the discussion.

All the best. Good luck.

Regards,
Dr Soumen
