Had Done A Sputum Test. What Does Result Infer?

Question: I had done a Sputum test
Result shows Gram Staining - PUS cells and gram pistive cocci are seen
Also it shows
Streptococcus pneumoniae isolated

Nature of Growth: Luxuriant

Please guide what does this mean?

Thanks for your query

It looks like you are suffering from a bacterial infection of the respiratory tract.
You will have to be treated with antibiotics like levofloxacin or third generation cephalosporin like cefixime for a minimum period of 5 days. Please approach your physician for a prescription.

Along with that you could also use the following tips
1. Avoid exposure to cold weather, always keep yourself warm
2. Drink and eat warm food
3. Avoid cold drinks

Secerity of the pneumonia is based on clinical assessment and not by the reports.
Sterptococcus pneumoniae infection definitely needs to be treated with antibiotics whether are not you need admission is best decided by the physician based on your chest findings, blood pressure and saturation. Please appearing a physician/ pulmonologist soon
