Question: Dear Sir,
I want to know if previous abortions can have any impact on conceiving.
My wife had three abortions around 8 years back with medicines. She is trying to conceive now. all reports are normal but she is not conceiving.

Medical abortions can cause pelvic inflammatory disease which can cause infertility.Repeated abortion increases the risk of pelvic inflammatory disease.. This this is not common. Medical abortion causes miscarriage and placental problems to a greater extent than affecting fertility. Surgical abortion can cause damage to cervix and uterus to a greater extent than medical abortion..

I feel she should continue taking clomid and follow up with follicular study to see for ovulation. Post ovulation period take progesterone tablet for 10 days. If there is any signs of infection get it treated first..Continue this along with IUI for 6 months before going for IVF.. Get a semen analysis done..
