Does Methylparaben Of Hair Dyes Causes Any Skin Cancers?

default
Posted on Fri, 30 May 2014
Question: The hair coloring I used to have my hairdresser put in for me contains methylparaben. Does it cause skin irritations or cancers? I stopped having my hair colored last year when I broke out all over my scalp and body. I'm still breaking out, and when I scratch it, sometimes it bleeds a lot. It's been almost a full year, and I still have this miserable rash, and have to take Atarax for the itch. I've had at least 5 different diagnoses, but not one is correct. One dermatologist even said it was "psychosomatic!
The brand name is, AGE beautiful.
I am also allergic to mold.

Dear MADAM,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that Methylparaben is basically an anti-irritant agent and anti-microbial. It is an anti-fungal and commonly used as a preservative for cosmetics, drugs and food items. it is a a safe substance. Allergic recations to this substance is rare but since you have already got a history of multiple allergies there is a possibilty that you may be having an allergic response to this as every individual is different. I read that you have multiple allergies too.

Having said that you also should check the other reasons for scalp break outs as allergic reactions do not last so long. It is really difficult to bring out an online diagnosis when the physical doctors are clueless. You should check with the immunologist the reason for recurrent break outs. THere are certain immunodeficiencies which bring in this condition.

I will advise you to avoid it .

Take care.
