Question: Hi, I have sinus, schizophrenia, bipolar and cognitive dsyfunction. I am taking sizodon ls at night, lonazep 0.5 mg at night and morning, zolfresh 10 mg at night, elicia 4mg at night, bextol dt 2 mg at morning, cognix plus at morning, modalert 100 mg at morning, pand d at morning and night and a multi-vitamin supplement at morning. My brain CT and MRI showed no abnormalities in my brain. I have mild tremors due to side effects of anti psychotics and am taking bexol dt 2 mg at morning. I have some cognitive dsyfunction and my psychiatrist is hesitant to give adhd stimulants due to high risks of mania and psychosis. Will PET or brain spect help identify cognitive dsyfunction or are these procedures unnecessary as brain ct and brain mri showed no abnormalities in my brain structure. Please suggest the best possible treatment for cognitive dsyfunction. I have attached my latest blood test report. Regards,XXXX

Brief Answer: PET scan would be helpful. Detailed Answer: Hi, Thank you for posting your query. Yes, PET-CT scan would be helpful in evaluation of cognitive dysfunction. PET scan is different from routine CT/MRI scans, as PET gives information about brain function, as against information about brain structure given by CT/MRI. Medications helpful in improving cognitive dysfunction include piracetam, ginkgo biloba, memantine, donopezil, etc. In your blood tests, triglycerides (in cholesterol) are high, for which fenofibrate tablets can be taken. Vitamin D level is low, for which vitamin D supplements are needed. I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information. Hi, Apollo Hospital Nadanam Chennai informed me that PETCT Brain costs Rs 12000/- but they require a Neurologist's prescription as it involves injecting Radioactive chemicals. If you have a scanner attached to your system, can you please attach a scanned image or PDF PETCT Brain prescription in your letter head so that I can perform the PETCT at Apollo Hospital Nandanam Chennai. Or else, e-mail me the prescription to my e-mail id YYYY@YYYY Please revert for any questions. Regards, XXXX
