Brief Answer:
Side effects of Castophene are mentioned below
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for your query.
Castophene is the Brand name of a compound called Phenolphthalein- a laxative.
The side effects of Castophene can be mild, such as, nausea,
bloating, abdominal cramps (colicky pain), burping and
diarrhoea. Nevertheless, the symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Castophene are more or less tolerable.
Severe, but rare, adverse effects include allergic reactions, allergic inflammation of skin and rash.
The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute over dosage of Castophene include
Diarrhea, acute collection of water in the lungs,
Hypoglycemia and
Pancreatitis.
It should therefore be used with caution in diabetics, as in your case.
Hope I have addressed to your concerns to your complete satisfaction and you find my response helpful and informative. I will be happy to answer further queries, if any.
Fond regards and have a nice day,
Col (Dr.) Rakesh Karanwal
