Can HIV Be Contracted Through A Facial Massage?

default
Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2016
Question: Hi,

I recently went for facial massage. The therapist did not told me that she was going to prick my pimples. She started pricking them and then after the massage I asked her what she uses to prick them. My eyes were covered while she was pricking them. I was not sure what else she was using and doing with my skin but it pained me a lot to the extent that my legs were shaking.

After the massage I asked her what she used to prick thr pimples and she shows me what she used. It was the lancet which is used in blood sugar measurement kit.

I am not sure if she used a new lancet or the old one. What if she used the old lancet which was used for someone else who may have HIV?

I did saw that after the massage the places where she pricked were swollen, may be even blood also came out.

Should I go for PEP for HIV? It had been less than 48 hours since it happened.

Please advise me what should I do. I don't want to have HIV due to someone not telling me what they were doing while my eyes were closed.

Please advise.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
The risk of getting HIV is very less.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome to HCM.

The survival of HIV virus outside the human body in an open environment is very difficult and it will die within seconds so don't worry because the risk of getting HIV is very less in your case.

As far as pain is concerned it is very usual after the removal of pimples by the lancet or any other way which itself wean off by the time so don't get too much worried about that.

As such PEP is not indicated in your case because the exposure is very very rare so be relaxed and go for HIV testing for your mental satisfaction after 15 days which will clear all your doubts.

Thank You

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

What are the chances for getting HIV through deep kissing?

I can meet someone and decide to go out with her.

I don't know that person and her HIV status.

What if she is HIV positive? Can the HIV virus transfer from her to me, through deep kissing or regular kissing if any of us or both of us had cut in our mouth or soreness in the mouth?

What is the risk factor in this scenario?

Please advise.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
No risk of transmission of HIV through deep kissing.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Kissing is no risk activity for the transmission of HIV even though the girl is positive because saliva is not the bodily fluid that can transmit HIV. Saliva contains enzymes which inhibit the growth of HIV.

The only way for HIV to be transmitted through the kissing is if any one of you had actively bleeding cut or wound in your mouth that come into contact with other person cut or wound and the possibility of such exposure is very remote so don't worry.

Thank You

Hi,

I actually had an incident with deep kissing an unknown person. She told me that she was just visiting the country for 31st December and few days.

I was too drunk when I kissed her.

It had happened 69 hours ago.

Since last 10 hours I do have symptoms like ARS related to sneezing, sore throat, feeling week, body aches, headache, runny nose, fever and diarrhea.

Can ARS develop within 3 days after exposure?

My gums do bleed in mouth when I brush my teeth.

Can the virus in blood from her mouth enter through my gums in my mouth?

I had taken PEP medication some time ago, few months ago.

Can the body develop symptoms related to ARS early i.e. within 3 days if PEP course was taken before?

Do I need to take PEP again?

What are my symptoms, are they ARS symptoms?

Please advise.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
ARS symptoms take at-least 10-14 days to develop after the infection.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

ARS symptoms take at-least 10-14 days to develop after the infection so no need to worry. Your symptoms are mostly due to some viral infection and the symptoms are very common during winter season. Consult your local physician, take some antibiotics and other medicines for symptoms as per the advice.

For gum bleeding you can consult some dentist and take the opinion. No need to go for PEP because the exposure is very remote in your case. Be relaxed, don't get so tensed or anxious and move ahead in life happily as you are risk free.

Thank You

Hi,

Yesterday I had bad fever, cough, very bad throat. Took ibuprofen and antihistamine, feeling little better, but just saw that blood came out in cough.

Is blood in cough sign of anything bad?

Thanks
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Blood in cough is due to congestion or soreness in throat nothing else.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

The blood tinged cough or sputum is commonly associated with congested or sore throat and not at all related to HIV. Continue medicines as suggested by the doctor and it will be alright when fever and sore throat get relieved so be relaxed.
