Can Duphaston Delay Periods?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Oct 2017
Question: Hi my doctor gave me duphaston 10 mg for 10 days on my 14 day (ovulation day confirmed after echo) she advised to take it to maintain pregnancy if there was any eventhough i have no issues related to my period cycle or miscarriage. i finished it yesterday and i am supposed to get my period on 29th means tomorrow maximum after tomorrow. In case there was no pregnancy, this course of duphaston may cause any harm or delay to my period ? Please advise. xxxxx

Brief Answer:
It may delay your period.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
Usually duphaston is given in post ovulation cycle to support pregnancy ( if you get conceived).
But if you are not pregnant on duphaston than it may cause delayed menses due to hormonal imbalance caused by progesterone.
So you have to wait and watch for your menses for 7 days, if still delay than get your home urine pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy.
Hope found useful, feel free to ask more information.
Good luck.
Regards
