Can Amoxicillin Cause Rashes On The Body?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Aug 2017
Question: Is it possible for a new allergy to form over serveral years to antibiotics? For example, I use to take AMOXICILLIN all through high school whenever I would get bacterial infections, however two years ago I developed an entire rash over my body at the same time I was taking AMOXICILLIN. I stopped taking it and the rash went away. Was it the AMOXICILLIN? Or something else ?

Brief Answer:
You can do intradermal reaction prove

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking in HCM

I can understand your concern

It is very difficult to say it was an alergic reaction due to amoxicillin use or not.

The diagnostic confirmation might be doing the intradermal prove or the oral one for the class of the antibiotics involved.

If the results are negative than that dermal rash it was not from amoxicillin.

Sometimes during a viral infection or even a bacterial one the patient might experience a cutan rash that usually resolves with the infection too.

If you want to know exactly discuss with your doctor to do the above tests and to know if you can use amoxicillin anymore or you should avoid its use further.
