Question: Hi, my 5 year old boy is running fever. We are away from home in a hill station and not carrying meds at the moment. I have Alex-P and Domstal with me. Let me know if i can administer any for time being? Or please suggest some home remedies.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
It could be a viral illness

Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

Kindly get back with weight of the kid so that I can suggest you the dose of the Paracetamol. You can treat fever with Paracetamol at 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly if fever is > 100F. Give him plenty of oral fluids and let him urinate well.

Fever of 1 day without any localizing signs could as well be a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If he is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
