Are Night Sweats, Fatigue And Darkening Around The Eyes Signs Of HIV?

default
Posted on Tue, 12 Jul 2016
Question: I have had 2 hiv tests in the last few years and no new partners or other high risk behavior, both of them where the saliva and cheek swab type and both of them came back negative.

My question is, is it possible if I was infected with hiv 10 - 15 years ago my body may not be producing the antibodies the swab tests for and I am getting a false negative?

I ask becaue I have a number of other symptoms such as night sweats, fatigue, darkening and pitting around the eyes which lead me to be I've it is a possibility.

Thank you for your time.

Brief Answer:
It is not possible.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Solve,

Welcome to HCM.

You had HIV test regularly since 2 years and result is negative then it is not possible to get infected with 10-15 years past exposure because window period for HIV also varies from 15days to 3months

Your symptom are also not specific to HIV. They are mostly due to some other viral infection so don't get worried as there is no risk in your case. Consult your physician and follow the treatment regime. Be relaxed and move ahead in life happily.

Thank You

I also suffer from cluster headaches, constant mouth sores, random body pains, and incredibly frequently bowl movements (2-5 times a day) , I also just recently developed a bunch of new freckles all over my chest which I at first feared to be Karposi sarcoma .

I was told years after it happen that a girl I has intercourse with in my youth had HIV, but as I said 15 years have passed since then.

but I do get sick quite often, I just wanted to verify that if it was possible that I have had HIV for so long that the cheek swab test wouldn't detect it and if I should go and get anouther type of HIV test.
I didn't get tested for almost 13 years out of fear and shame.

I'm sorry if this sounds a bit redundant, it is quite possible in thinking this for all these years I have developed some psychological issues , anxiety disorders or a bit of hypochondriac behaviors.

Brief Answer:
It is not possible after such long period of exposure.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Solve,

Welcome back and follow-up.

It is not possible to get infected after 13 years of exposure and the test result is also reliable so don't get worried about that and forget the past.

The symptoms are due to other infection for which you can go for some investigation after consulting the physician and follow the treatment regime.

Do meditation or yoga to relieve your anxiety. Take healthy and nutritious diet. You can also consider counselling services if needed for your satisfaction
