Are Mouth Ulcers And Rashes On Back Symptoms Of Early HIV?

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Oct 2015
Question: I have some questions about acute early HIV symptoms. I had protected sex with a stripper almost six weeks ago. I have had mouth ulcers come and go, a white tounge, and a rash on my back. Are these symptoms that I should be worried about? Can i get tested now for accurate results?

Brief Answer:
HIV unlikely with protected sex. Rule out with Antigen based HIV test.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
WELCOME TO HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.

You had protected sex. If the condom were intact throughout the sexual contact, the chances of acquiring HIV was very much unlikely.

Acute infection of HIV usually manifests with fever and body pain. Mouth ulcers on and off are common problem for many even in the absence of a HIV infection.

As you had crossed 6 weeks after the exposure, any antigen based tests (P24 antigen test, DNA PCR, RNA Qualitative PCR) will be highly reliable and confirmatory as far as HIV 1 infection is concerned. (Separate HIV 2 antigen test is also available). HIV 1 infection is the commonest form (more than 99%) of HIV infection throughout the world except certain parts of west XXXXXXX So you can opt for the same and rule out the possibility of HIV infection.
