What Is The Cause Not Being Able To Sit For A Long Time After Hip And Leg Surgeries?

I have three screws in my hip and a titanium rod in the other leg. I am 64 and had the surgeries in May on the hip and August for the femur on the other leg. I am still in therapy but walking more with a cane. I have issues standing up straight but it is getting better sitting is still an issue for any length of time. It is winter here and very cold.

Do you think that I will be able to ever be able to be normal again?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

If I were your doctor, I would be very frank with you in this. The bones and joints or any such tissue in our body undergo a natural process of ageing, and they become more prone to give one trouble than what they used to when these tissue were young enough to sustain any kind of injury or inflammation. This does not mean that they will not recover, but the recovery might be some what slow and prolonged and may not be a complete 100% as it used to be earlier. As you wrote, your problems are getting better day by day, and I am sure, the sitting issue will also improve gradually. As such these problems increase in winter, and so once the weather improves, the recovery may be faster. You can go for some anti inflammatory drug as advised by your doctor, and also do not miss the physiotherapy exercises which might have been advised to you from the physiotherapy department of the hospital. I would advise you to always use your joint and limbs as much as possible under medical advice.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management. Thanks for using the health care magic forum for your query on health. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
