What Else Could Cause Very Loose Stool And Bad Smell From It ?
7 year old, nearly every morning (as soon as waking up) running for the bathroom, very loose stool and very, very smelly...sometimes he soils himself in his sleep, sometimes it wakes him up during the night...we know he is very sensitive to any milk and have completely removed dairy from his diet....what else could cause it...

Involuntary fecal soiling is called Encopresis. I think your child is having encopresis. Encopresis (fecal soiling) may be or may not be associated with constipation. For example, a child may not have regular bowel movements and is constipated. In this case, hardened stool accumulate in large and small intestine and the soft and liquid stool around the hard stool leaks. This may be the case with your child. It looks weird constipation causing diarrhea. But the cause of encopresis could be from constipation. I recommend physical examination by Pediatrician. I also recommend X-ray of abdomen to see how far the stool are accumulated in bowels. If there is huge amount of stool in bowels he needs stool softeners-like miralax, lactulose. If still the constipation is not resoled they need enemas. In the long run, proper diet (fiber diet, plenty of water and juices), exercise and regular bowel habits will definitely help.
