Would The Nerve Damage In The Gum Cause Swelling At The Side Of The Nose?

After getting a upper tooth extracted (#13) in December last year I got a weird feeling under my left eye. I had an abscess on my gum above the extraction site which the dentist finally lanced using his dental laser. That night the side of my nose swelled up and hasn t gone down yet (April) also I get weird pinching/itching feelings from my nose across my cheek under my eye - they moved around a lot. I did go to two ENT s who said it was probably nerve damage and nothing to do with sinuses. My question is would nerve damage cause the swelling in the side of my nose? also it seems to be mirrored to a much lesser extent on the other side of my face/slight swelling down the other side of nose also. I am 50, 115lbs, 5, 4

Hello,

You had tooth extraction done, thereafter had an abscess on your gum and also had side of your nose swelled up. You had abscess on your gums, your gums got infected. Dental complication can lead to spread of the bacteria. Air filled spaces behind the cheek bones can get infected called maxillary sinusitis that may cause swelling, tenderness, pain, fever around the cheeks.

Swelling on sides of the nose and thick nasal secretions may occur if ethmoidal sinus is affected. Sphenoidal sinus when infected cause swelling on either side of the nasal cavity. Get X-ray PNS and other required imaging tests done, get your sinus problem treated. You are also suggested to get your dental problem properly examined and treated. You may need a course of antibiotics orally. Take analgesic to reduce swelling and discomfort when needed. Take care of your oral hygiene. Gargle and rinse with warm salt water after every meal.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
