Worsened Condition Of Shoulder After Repair Of Tear In Right Rotator Cup. Suggested Manipulation Under Anastesia. Suggest

I have torn my right Rotator cup twice (I am right handed), After the second repair I am out over a year and my shoulder seem worse now that before surgery. My ortho Dr is recommending a manipulation under anastesia. I am not comfortable with this procedure because I have read of numerous instances where damage occured during the procedure....What is your oponion?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Generally, shoulder manipulation is recommended if there is stiffness in the shoulder associated with loss of range of movements.

The purpose of shoulder manipulation is to release any intraarticular (within the joint) adhesions which may give an increased range of motion in the shoulder joint.

But, as like any other procedure, it may also give rise to complications which are inherent to the procedure. Please discuss the issues with your treating doctor.

Hope this information is helpful .Good day
