I am hypothyroid patient and my TSH level is 16 and FT4 is 3.29. Now I am in my 5 th week of pregnancy. My doc has advised to start thyronorm 50 mg treatment. Is it enough to supplement my thyroid requirement during pregnancy. Will there be any risk in mental and physical development of my baby?
Hello, I read carefully your concern and i find it very interesting. The recommended level of the thyroid hormones during pregnancy has changed and is lower than some years ago (during the first trimester TSH should be It is hard to say the proper dose now (that is why is recommended to enter in pregnancy with a normal thyroid function), it will be find out during the follow up. Usually i do start with 0.7 mcg/kg. It is also very important to take the tablets correctly (early in the morning and 30 min after not to eat or drink anything). Hypothyroidism is a known risk for mental and physical development that is why it should be corrected as soon as possible. Hope my information will be somewhat helpful for you.
