Will Bladder Come Back After Tumor Removal Outside Rectosigmoid?

I had surgery 3 weeks ago to remove a 5 cm tumor on the outside of the rectosigmoid. The rectum and part of the colon was removed. I now have a temporary ileostomy until after treatments. They put stents in the ureters and did a cystoscopy, scrapped the first lining of the uterus bladder and vagina. All clear margins and clear lymph nodes (28 of them). But now I can't urinate. Had no problems before the surgery. I am now straight cathing myself and I'm worried I won't pee again normally. Will my bladder come back?

Rectal surgeries can injure the nerves going to the bladder and paralyze it. It is a common side effect of surgeries in the pelvic region. It is too early to tell whether this is temporary or permanent. The recovery can take up to 6 months to 1 year. In the mean while taking care of the bladder with regular catheterizations and avoiding infections is the main aim . Medications like bethenachol and vitamin B 12 can help. Pelvic floor exercises would also help with the recovery.
