Why Upper Lips Are Swollen And Numb After Nose Surgery?
About 25 years ago I had an accident in which my upper lips got badly cut and lost a few teeth. My lips had a few stich and healed. about two months ago I had a small nose surgery and forgot to tell the doctor about my accident 25 years ago and my stitched upper lips. Afte the surgery my upper lips got badly swollen but a few days after swollen has subsided but numbness was there. Numb feeling is just like the numbness after dental anaesthetic. I htought it iwll go nut two months has passed and I still feel numbness on my half left side of upper lip. I feel more numb in the morning.
I can understand your concern. What you are describing can be considered as paresthesia, a complication after surgery and local anesthesia. It may happen if the nerve supplying the upper lip and teeth area is injured during injury.
I am afraid to inform you that it takes time for the injured nerve to regenerate, sometimes 3-4 months, but can extend up to 6 months to a year. Some signs of progressing regeneration are itching, burning sensation in the area and occasional sharp pains. Massaging the area frequently can help.
However, you should keep follow up appointments with your surgeon regarding the healing process and paresthesia problem. You can also consult a neurologist if you do not get sensations back for some months.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. Let me know if you have further questions.
