Why Do I Continue To Have Upper Respiratory Infections?

April 2011 I was in hosp for 1 week with upper resp infec then again in Jan 2012 In hosp for same thing. Now mid Feb. I am having the same symptoms as before. I have asthma and thats why I end up in hosp. Why do I continue to have upper respiratory infections? What can I do to prevent this? I am 54 yrs old, diabetic, asthma, RLS, small vessel disease for which I am on daily meds for each.

I can understand your situation and problem.
Asthma patients are at increased risk of respiratory infections due to poor lung defense.
And most common infection is viral infection.
Amongst viruses, Influenza virus is more common.
So for your symptoms, recurrent viral infections (mostly Influenza) is likely cause.
And fir this, annual vaccination with Influenza vaccine is advisable.
This will provide sufficient immunity to prevent recurrent Influenza infection.
Also take your asthma drugs timely because control of asthma is also important in prevention of symptoms.
