Why are my toe nails yellow and orange? What is the cause?

Both of my large toe nails are a yellowish orange color, starting from the top of the nail & almost all colored down. I noticed this quiet a few years after taking my nail polish off. I never really thought much of it until now.... Years have passed and the color is sill the same. I am healthy with no existing conditions. What could be the cause of this?
