When Should I Take Primolut To Delay Periods When Having 18-22 Days Cycle?

im travelling on 5th frb 2014 n want to take primolut n to delay my period.my last period started on 17 jan......also my cycle has shortened from 22 days and now they arrive on 18th -22 nd day so im not sure when i should start the medicine....its important as im going on a pilgrim......plz advise

Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
In order to delay the period, Primolut N or equivalent progesterone preparations should be started well in advance.
Actually they should be begun 5 - 6 days before the expected period.
If you had your last period on the 17th of January, and the cycle is 18 days, then your next period would be expected on 3rd of February.
SO the pills should be started on the 31st of January.
You should continue taking the pills as long as you do not wish to menstruate.
Then once you stop, you will have withdrawal bleeding within a week of stopping the pills
It is not advisable to meddle with your cycles unless you have a really emergent reason.
At times, the flow after taking the withdrawal can be quite heavy.
