What Treatment To Be Taker For Piles And Blood In Stool?

Hello. My mum recently had a blood test done as she found fresh blood in her stools. The doctor said that he could feel raised bumps around her anus, which could mean piles. She then had a blood test. The test indicated that she had slightly raised esr levels. The doctor said to go back in 4 weeks and have another blood test to see if it has come down. I m just really worried that it might be cancer as my mums mum had bowel cancer. Do I need to be worried ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Any GI bleeding at this age should be evaluated and particularly when there is h/o cancer in the family.
Bleeding might be due to piles or some local lesion but it should require investigations.
Go for ultra sound of abdomen.
Go for colonoscopy to rule out any space occupying lesion.
Ok and take care.
