What should be done for my mothers ear as she cant hear and having bad pain with itching and bad smell ?
MY MOTHER IS SUFFERING FROM EAR PROBLEM SINCE LAST 1 YEAR SHE GOT ITCHING ,LITTLE PAIN & BAD SMELL IN EAR ALSO HEARING PROLBEM. AS PER HER XRAY REPORTS SHE GOT BILATERAL MASTOIDITIS CAN U PLZ EXPLAIN ME WHAT IS IT AND HOW CAN IT BE CURED? I HAD CONSULTED 2 ENT SPECIALIST ONE OF THEM TOLD US TO GO FOR SURGERY & OTHER ONE TOLD TO DO MEDICAL TREATMENT . PLEASE SUGGEST ME. SHAFAQUE MERCHANT jazz4u2009@gmail.com

According to your history, If the discharge is foul smelling and not controlled with antibiotic, then she must have deep chronic ear infection which spreads to a mastoid bone( a bone behind the ear) that is called mastoiditis. In such situation surgery is the cure. Have a speedy recovery.

Thanks for query,
There might be more than one problems in the ears of your mother,
1,She might have fungal infection in the ears as there is itching.
2,Chronic matiditis,there is bony projection behind the ears called mastoid infection in this sinus leads to mastoiditis.
3,There may be autosclerosis in the three small bones in the middle ears causing hearing problem.
Go for antibiotic course,cleaning of external ears will remove fungus,put anti fungal drops.
If medical treatment does not give relief then she should go for surgery..
