Hi & Welcome.
The pre-exposure prevention is recommended to international travelers who are likely to come in contact with animals in parts of the world where rabies is common.
Precautions to be taken while giving anti
rabies vaccine.
1. Since the multidose might contain preservatives so, the single dose should be preferred to take vaccine.
2. The pre-exposure schedule for rabies
vaccination should be as follows:
3. Three 1.0 mL dose of the vaccine to be given using a sterile needle & syringe, one injection per day on Days 0, 7, and 21.
4. Since due to the possibility of poor absorption from that site and lower neutralizing antibody titers the vaccine should not be given into the
gluteal muscles. Hence, it should be given in the upper and outer quadrant of the arm (in deltoid muscles).
5. Generally it is a safer vaccine, however it may cause soreness,
redness, swelling, or itching where the shot was given. Although it is very rare, however, severe allergic reactions may also occur.
6. One should avoid taking immunosuppressive drugs like
Corticosteroids, Chloroquine as they can interfere with the development of active immunity following the vaccination.
7. Alcohol consumption should also be discouraged for the same reasons given above.
Hope the information given above would be useful to you.
Regards.
