What Medication Is Suggested For Multi -nodular Goiter On The Left Side?

I have a multi-nodular goiter on the left side, I'm 30 yrs old female. when I was 15 i had hyperthyroidism with large goiter and nodule. This was treat with radioactive iodine in low dose. Goiter shrank and I was not on any hormone therapy, left side was found to be destroyed/inactive. Now nodules are growing slow in the left side, biopsy was clear, ultrasound shows original nodule is calcified. Others are fluid filled or solid. My hormone levels are on the high end of "normal" Right side of thyroid is slightly enlarged. I want the left side removed as it is causing compression issues, pain in my neck, jaw, and headaches. I can't sleep well for pressure on my neck. My Endo. says surgery is not necessary. I am worried because i do not understand the growth of the nodules after the radio-iodine therapy and why endo. thinks this is a non-issue.

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hi,
You can develop nodules or multinodular goiter years after radio iodine treatment. The indication of surgery in nodules include abnormal ultrasound scan of neck with abnormal FNAC, presence of compression symptoms, or large goiter with extension into your chest cage. Once you have done thyroid surgery you need to be on thyroxine supplementation probably for life long and surgery is associated with 3-5% surgical complications. That may be the reason why your endocrinologist is against it.
If i were your treating doctor i would have suggested follow up every month and suggested surgery once indication arises.

Hope I have answered your query,

Regards
