Hi, I have had an inflamed tonsil for over a year with no pain really and intermittent sore throats, the last few days I've had a white spot on the tonsil and I just put pressure on it and lots of white foul smelling stuff has come out, what is this abd what should I do?

Otolaryngologist/ENT Doctor 's  Response
Hi,
Your clinical history is suggestive of a chronic infection of the tonsils. White spots/patches on tonsils suggest the presence of some pus due to bacterial infection. This thick infected stuff (pus) is whitish, cheesy and foul smelling.

It is advisable to get a culture and sensitivity test of the throat swab during the next episode of sore throat to identify the causative agent and determine suitable antibiotic that could provide you long term relief. Please consult your doctor to get this test done.
In the meantime salt water gargles thrice daily for 1 week could be helpful.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr. Prasad
