What Is The Treatment For Vertigo Caused By Possible Ear Infection Or Vestibular Neuritis?
I am being treated for inner ear infection or they think it it Labyrinthitis or Vestibular Neuritis. I have had this now going on 7 weeks. I keep being told that it should eventually go away on its own and to take Meclizine if I need it. I have had all the tests and am now just waiting for this to get better but am wondering if they have the right diagnosis. 7 weeks ago I started out with severe vertigo and was taken by ambulance to the the hospital as I couldn't move, now I have the dizzy spells when I move certain directions. I now just felt faint when I moved just a little bit, and that scared me as I haven't had that symptom yet. Is there some absolute way to tell that I actually have what they said, besides "we think so and we have to do process of elimination"
Hello and welcome to HCM, The inner ear is concerned with hearing and maintenance of balance. The two functions are performed by two different components of the ear. Labyrinthitis and vestibular neuritis are infections of the part concerned with maintenance of balance. Vertigo and fainting spells are expected in these lesions. These symptoms will clear away only when the infection is fully controlled. Meclizine will help to control these symptoms. Feeling the symptoms in a particular position is expected in this condition. This is because of the structure of the inner ear. You need to continue the prescribed treatment and stay in touch with your doctor at regular intervals.
