What Is The Treatment For Rheumatoid Arthritis?

My Mom is at UC Davis hospital right now and isn't doing so good. She has been diagnosed with Epilepsy now for 30 years. She has always been very active and coherent. But over the past 6 months has taken a dramatic turn. She has lost a tremendous amount of weight, shakes all the time, loss of muscle mass and can't communicate all to well. She was also diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis about 3 years ago. The doctors can't seem to figure out the problem. They say her Thyroid isn't working correctly, but I KNOW as well as she that there has to be more behind it. I'm REALLY scared, she's only 53 and my family can't understand how someone who's taking 2 mile walks a day can suddenly 6 months later not be able to get out of bed AT ALL! What do you think could be wrong? She has had numerous blood, urine, MRI's and catscans done. They still don't know!

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case.

There is possibility of malignancy leading to weakness.

Pain on swelling indicates inflammatory process or nerve compression.
I will advise you to do PET SCAN

You may need further investigation to rule out malignancy.
For RA you can take dose of methotrexate.
I will advise dose 7.5mg weekly.
You can start combination consulting your treating doctor.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
