What Is The Treatment For Itchy Red Rashes Under The Skin On Right Leg?

I have been training more than usual this year, running and weights, and have a lower leg rash on one leg around the shin area. I have been running in and off for a number of years and had occasional pain in my shins, particularly on my right shin where the rash currently is. The rash is itchy and seems to start with dry skin, small blister like areas, liquid is clear, and when scratched they form small scabs. Recently I have been getting additional spots across the right lower leg which are painful to touch. I have had the occasional athletes foot and currently have fungal nail on my right foot on three nails which I have been treating with over the counter products. The rash is red and seems to be raised under the skin and is very itchy but located only on my right shin/lower leg.

Hello,

You are suffering from itchy, red rashes under the skin of the right leg. It starts with dry skin, blisters, scabs. After scratching it becomes painful to touch. It seems you are suffering from heat rash or psoriasis (caused by a misdirected immune system, inherited genes and certain environmental conditions). It is not contagious & is not caused by sexual contact. There is no cure for psoriasis but the symptoms can be controlled. Applying cool compress is relieving, do not unnecessarily touch or scratch.

You can apply topical ointments like hydrocortisone on the affected area for relief. Application of salicylic acid cream or ointment on the affected area effectively reduces the scaling of psoriasis. Medications (steroids, etc.), moisturizers, stress reduction are helpful. Get connected to a dermatologist. You may need adjunctive therapy sessions for relief. Take care of your hygiene. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
