Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain your brother seems to be suffering from Tonsillitis secondary to throat infection which can be bacterial [strep throat] or viral [mono] in nature and many a times there is a viral infection with a secondary bacterial infection..
The inflamed gums and tongue is also secondary to infection and inflammation in throat..
The medications given to your brother that is an antibiotic Augmentin is appropriate as well as Voltaren [diclofenac]is also appropriate medicine for relieving pain..
He can take these medicines, along with it he can do warm saline gargles, steam inhalations and use a humidifier in room.
Gargle with a numbing mouthwash to relieve pain and burning of tongue and gums.
Take a soft diet..
Drink plenty of warm water..
stay away from spicy , hard and chilled foods..
Take ample of rest..
Take a multivitamin tablet for 15 days..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
