What Is The Treatment For Discoloration Of The Skin?

Hi.. I applied Dettol on my chin last night. I spotted some different kind of break out and hence applied Dettol. My chin has turned deep red and appears to be burnt. I am deeply concerned. Is it burnt or is this discoloration temporary? How long will it take to recover? Kindly help me.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hey there.
You seemed to have 'burnt' your skin or caused an 'irritant contact dermatitis'.
This will heal but will leave behind some residual pigmentation to begin with.
If you act fast & slap on some hydrocortisone-fusidic acid cream or plain hydrocortisone cream asap, it may just limit the damage, reduce the inflammation & decrease the extent of the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Do remember to stay away from the sun for the time being & in 24-48 hrs ensure a good sunscreen applied on the area to limit damages.
The discolouration will persist for a few weeks but just how long will not be able to say accurately.
Do visit a Dermatologist/Cosmetologist nearest you at the earliest after the initial first aid measures I have suggested. You may use this HCM site for zeroing in on one in your area.
Good Luck. Cheers.
