hi... thanks for writing.. i have understood your concerns..

your mother must be visiting a psychiatrist and on medications..

when a person with bipolar disorder have multiple episodes, s/he shud take mood stabilizer drug regularly without interruption possibly life long..i dont know your mother is taking regular treatment or not?

the mood stabilizers are, sodium valproate, divalproex sodium, lithium, carbamazeoine, oxcarbazepine..

when a person of bipolar disorder has depression she shud not be given antidepressant medication alone otherwise she would switch to high phase rapidly..anti depressant medication can be given under cover of mood stabilizer..

in my opinion, take your mother to a psychiatrist and go with her, discuss her condition with him and ask for advice, what can be done? what are the possible treatment options? whehter to give a antidepressant drug or not? which mood stabilizer shud be given? you shud discuss all these with him...

give medications regularly, your mother requires then life long now onwards..

i hope this advice will be helpful to you...best of luck.. take care of your mother..
