What Is The Treatment For Bartholin Cyst?

Hi

I have my fourth Bartholin cyst in 3 months always on the right side, I had a marsupilization 3 weeks ago and it came back again. I have been back to Gyn 3 times in a and e in the last 2 weeks . I was give nco-amoxiclav which did nothing. Then was told The gland would be removed monday when I came into a and e saw a different gyane she said it was too small to get in and take the gland out (its the size of a ping pong ball) she said I have to wait till its the size of an egg before they sort it out and then take the gland out in the remaining pocket. I feel confused and wondered if someone could give me some advice as two other gyanes told me that they could take the gland out the size it is and she refuses too. All she did was give me flucloxacillin for ten days which has made me vommitt, i've fainted and my hands are shaking (1g) x 2 every 4 hours. I don't want to take these and although the cyst has remained the same size the pain has got worse. Should i go back to a and e today as I am not taking these antibiotics as they make me feel worse?

Hi,

After studying your history, the possible suggestions according to me are:
- As you are having recurrence of Bartholin cyst and possibly with abscess formation
- As even after marsupialization your problem recurred, better to go for removal of the gland
- It is difficult to remove the gland when the pus is drained and cyst collapsed.

But as you are telling now the size of the cyst is of ping pong ball, then it could be around 4 cm. Usually it can be removed with this size. So, you please consult your regular Gynecologist and get the gland removed. Meanwhile you can take analgesic and anti inflammatory drugs and sitz bath with lukewarm water and little amount of disinfectant like dettol , these can relieve the pain to some extent.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
