Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My grand daughter who is 2 has had a runny stool for 3 weeks now. They said they found nothing in her stool or blood draw to explain. She has a terrible rash that sometimes bleeds because her butt is so raw, and then went away for 2 days and came back. They are now having her cut out gluten and dairy. She sits and barely gets any out sometimes, but cries and says sorry and it hurts her for the minute or 2 that she goes. She does this about every half hour. I can t stand to see her like this and they won t send her to see a gastroenterologist until the 2 weeks of this is tried. Please help!
hi I can understand the pain she must be feeling, but the course of treatment given by her doctors is appropriate, as some kids with prolonged diarrhea will have intolerance to milk which may be causing this, and since these symptoms have been persistent for more than 3 weeks it's appropriate that gluten is eliminated in her diet to look for any improvement. after she improves a challenge diet is given to her to look whether it milk intolerance or gluten sensitivity causing her the problems. in the mean while try to give her some paracetmol to relieve the pain and apply zinc based lotion or cream on her butt for fast recovery. kindly give her a well balanced diet( excluding milk and gluten )and a zinc based syrup daily as it helps in speedy recovery of gut. hope this helps her and wishing her a speedy recovery. take care
