I have been suffering with shingles for over a month. The blisters have gone but I have significant itching that does not seem to respond to antihistamines (Atarax) or creams. Do you have a suggestion to help with the incesant itching? I am taking Lyrica which has significatly reduced the pain. Thank you!
Hello, Thank you for posting on HCM. Singles or Herpes zoster is a viral infection where painful blisters appear on skin along the major nerve trunks and usually on one of the body. Early diagnosis and treatment is a key to prevent complications. As per your description, the excessive itching you are experiencing must be due to healing phase of Zoster. If blisters are completely resolved, apply a cream/ lotion containing pramoxine ( Venusia soft lotion) thrice a day and take oral antihistaminics all well. I would also recommend oral medicines containing vitamin B complex and gabapentin/ pregabalin and some antianxiety drugs like amitryptiline for some weeks. Hope this will take care of your query. Thank you, Dr Hardik Pitroda
