Hi and welcome to HCM..
I am really sorry to hear this about your husband..
I thank you for posting your query here and I'm definitely going to help you out..
I being a surgeon, we come across so many such cases day in and day out..
I read your question completely and have understood it well enough..
Continuous vomiting is dangerous and may lead to
electrolyte imbalance. The sodium and potassium mainly..
Sweating, feeling pale are all because of sympathetic overactivity that is seen in dehydration.
Well, I would like you to know that following things..
1. What causes such intractable vomiting?
Many causes, depends on age.
But generally the most common causes are
A. Food poisoning
B. Severe Gastritis
C.
Gastric outlet obstruction, causes being
pyloric stenosis in long standing ulcers, cancer etc.
D. Any GI infection. In
small intestine or large intestine.
2. Definitely, even consuming water becomes difficult and as you have rightly told, they won't like to take anything orally.
3. In such a situation, it's always better to get admitted or take intravenous fluids and
pantoprazole.
Also, intravenous emeset or perinorm drug is given.
This will control vomiting definitely and slowly we can switch over to oral fluids instead of intravenous fluids.
4. And this is the most important part of treating the
severe vomiting symptoms.
Because, if you don't then patient may land up in many complications like
Renal failure etc..
Hope this helps you, in case you need any further assistance, please let me know..
Take care and God bless you both..
