What Is The Cause Of Numbness And Sound In The Ear?

Hi I have been experiencing a numbness in my left ear. It feels like a bug crawling in it and occasionally it feels like cold water running out, but there is never anything there. I also have a drumming sound when changing positions. my ent said there wasnt anything wrong with my ear and that I should see a neurologist.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have numbness and sound in the ear because sometimes upper respiratory track infection ,when left untreated spread to ear through Eustachian tube and infect ear , which can cause pain and pressure in ear . Numbness can occur due to nerve dysfunction or infection as well . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order test like throat swab test , viral culture test or blood tests . Doctor may examine with otoscope and can go for audimetery testing as well. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin ) along with anti inflammatory. Avoid touching or pricking it with any sharp object. If numbness or chemical test doesn't improve then consult neurologist .
