my husband's chest x-ray showed some white spots suggestive of active koch's infection, his sputum test is negative but MT is positive. Two days ago doctor put him on augmention while the sputum and MT tests were done.He is feeling better. Also his ESR that was 8 two days ago is now back to two. Is he really having TB
Hello and welcome to HCM, Diagnosis of tuberculosis is confirmed by either identification of tuberculosis bacillus in the tissue sample (sputum in your case) or a positive PCR test. The X-ray chest is suggestive of tuberculosis and the Mantoux test is positive suggesting tuberculosis, however, ESR is not elevated. Normal range for ESR in adults is below 10 mm in the first hour.
Since, there is suspicion of tuberculosis, a PCR for tubercular bacilli can be done. If the PCR turns to be negative, probably antibiotic treatment will suffice.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
