What Is A Ppd Test Result Of 9mm Mean?

Hi I am Pau! I am 23 years old, height 5'2 and weight is 45 kg. I recently had a medical fitness test, Chest Xray and Blood test was done. Doctor saw something in my Xray ("traces of TB") and ordered for a sputum test. But I'm really having difficuties with regards to producing and coughing out phlegm. So, he ordered for a PPD test. The PPD test result is 9mm. What does it mean? I have TB? I don't have any symptoms of TB.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
PPD test is also called Mantoux test.
This test is positive in tuberculosis.
However, a negative test does not rule out tuberculosis.
PPD test can be negative in cases of immunosuppression.

Since, your doctor is suspicious of tuberculosis, a PCR test also needs to be done to completely rule out tuberculosis.
A sputum test can also be negative in tuberculosis if the bacterial count is low.
Consult your treating doctor for prescription of the PCR test.

Thanks and take care
