What Does This Liver Test Analysis For Jaundice Indicate?

Hello. I am a healthy 39 year old female. I recently turned jaundice, extremely itchy and had dark urine. On 3/24 AST was at 162, ALT416 alk phos 359 and bilirubin 2.9. I was taking Augmentin for 5 days (stopped it 4 days then had blood drawn) I have not taken any medication and have not had any alcohol and in my most recent test today my levels came back at AST 213, ALT 368, ALK phosphate 325 and billirubin 2.7. does this seem normal for drug induced hepatitis or should I be looking into something else?? I am an occasional drinker.. normal weight..no high blood pressure and have no history of elevated levels.

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.

These are very high values and jaundice is usually sign of certain diseases which may be related to liver, but also to biliary tract and pancreas . Causes of jaundice vary from non-serious to potentially fatal. High bilirubin may be due to liver diseases such as cirrhosis or hepatitis, infections, medications, o rblockage of the bile duct. In the developed world the cause is more often blockage of the bile duct or medications. Blockage of the bile duct may occur due to gallstones, cancer, or pancreatitis.
Treatment of jaundice is typically determined by the underlying cause. If a bile duct blockage is present surgery is typically required, otherwise management is medical.Medical management may involve treating infectious causes and stopping medication that could be contributing, but Augmentin os not hepatotoxic drug so it should not be the cause.

YOu need to do ERCP and CT scan as soon as possible since prolonged jaundice may cause some serious consequances.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
